Public health a tough sell in Quinte

Public health should be an easy sell but there's little understanding about health unit in community, said acting medical officer of health at board of health meeting, Jan. 14.

“You have an excellent product here,” Dr. Alban Goddard-Hill, acting medical officer of health, said to the board. “It should be an easy one to sell to the community.”

Hastings and Prince Edward Counties Health Unit spends about $9 million per year on preventive care. Three quarters of the total comes from provincial funds. The rest comes from local taxes, about $25 per person.

Goddard-Hill outlined the five areas in which the money is spent.
